Sermon text
Psalm 61
[1] Hear my cry, O God,
listen to my prayer;
[2] from the end of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I,
[3] for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
[4] Let me dwell in your tent forever!
Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah
[5] For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
[6] Prolong the life of the king;
may his years endure to all generations!
[7] May he be enthroned forever before God;
appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!
[8] So will I ever sing praises to your name,
as I perform my vows day after day. (ESV)
Call to Worship
Psalm 66:1–5
[1] Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
[2] sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise!
[3] Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
[4] All the earth worships you
and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.”
[5] Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. (ESV)
Prayer of Repentance
Almighty God, who does freely pardon all who repent and turn to Him, now fulfill in every contrite heart the promise of redeeming grace; forgiving all our sins, and cleansing us from an evil conscience; through the perfect sacrifice of Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
Benediction
May God keep you from fear even though the earth gives way, or the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, or the water roar and foam, or the mountains tremble at its swelling. May the LORD lead you to the river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. May the LORD of hosts be with you; and the God of Jacob be your fortress forever. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
