A Prayer for Christmas Morning

December 24, 2021

Heavenly Father,
You are the great Provider.
Caring not just for our bodies, but our souls.
In the days of old, you gave your people
rhythms of rest and celebration.
And we, like them, need renewal again and again.

Today, we see many traditions
and joyful activities repeated.
We return to them because we trust them
and connect with them.
But these are shadows of our continual need for you,
our source of life.
We will always need you and the good news of the Gospel.

Remind us that all creation is yours.
Remind us that we are affected by the curse
and indwelling sin.
Remind us that the world loves the darkness
rather than the light.

Tell us again how you descended to live among us.
Tell us again how you gave your life for rebels and enemies.
Tell us again how you rose from death
to save us and wash us clean.
Tell us again how you drew us out of darkness,
embraced us, and sealed us for glory.

Lord, please tune our ears to your song of redemption.
May we never get bored with the story of our Savior.

Amen

Advent 2021: Devotionals & Liturgies
By
Coram Deo Pastors & Members

It’s Christmas, and everything is changing because everything has changed. This Christmas at Coram Deo Church, we will be examining some of the most beloved Christmas carols, tracing their lyrics back to their biblical foundations. Our hope is that as we consider the biblical origins of these carols, our hearts and minds would be stirred to worship with a renewed awe and understanding of what God has done. In this guide, you will find eight short devotionals. Four of them follow the Sunday sermon series, connecting Christmas carols with biblical texts, and four of them are midweek devotionals, intended to help us understand who Jesus is and why Christmas is so important. There are prayers and liturgies along the way to guide us in reflection and worship. All of these are written by members and elders of Coram Deo Church. It is our hope and desire that as we reflect upon the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we would be filled with the great hope that only Christ can provide. Merry Christmas!
