Easter Prayer

April 17, 2022

Heavenly Father,

Easter is a celebration of all your promises
being fulfilled in Christ.
And yet, we often live like Jesus is still in the tomb, uncertain if you will keep your word.
Our enemy dredges up every disappointment, wound, and unmet expectation, as if you somehow let us down.
But the truth is, you have not failed us.
You never left us.
You are faithful beyond compare.
You are with us in the fiery furnace as it rages.
You are present in the boat as the storm whips around us.
Your Son went through death for us, enduring real torment, for the joy set before him.
But death gave way to resurrection,
proving again that you can be trusted.
Our justification is complete,
our relationship secure,
but why resurrection?
We long for peace, rest, and restoration now.
We are tempted to look for a different Messiah who promises immediate relief, conquers Rome for us,
and delivers on demand.
Our hearts strain to make sense
of our suffering and waiting.
But the resurrection reveals
that your ways are not our ways.
Your wisdom sees farther, plans better,
and loves more deeply than we do.
Moses was denied entrance to the Promised Land,
yet entered a true and better rest.
Lord, fix our eyes on you.
Raise our sight beyond this moment.
We ask for hope that is firmly planted, joy that endures
the night, and strength that brings glory to your name.
Help us to believe that you are leading us to our own resurrection and that you always finish what you start.

Amen.

Coram Deo Pastors & Members

In this book, you will find seven short devotionals that recount the words Jesus spoke from the cross. These words reveal the meaning, beauty, love, and power of Jesus’ crucifixion. Additionally, you will find thoughtful liturgical prayers that will help you reflect on and apply the truth of God’s Word. Lastly, we have provided a prayer for Resurrection Sunday.

10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
— 1 John 4:10 (ESV)
