A Prayer for Good Friday

Heavenly Father,

Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.”
Your relationship with the Son is beautiful, wonderful, and ultimate.
Perfect trust, perfect unity, perfect love. Together, the plan of salvation was formed and set in motion.
On the cross, the one who knew no sin became sin for us.
Your beloved son destroyed, the most loving union broken.

Gracious Redeemer,
You bore the cross for enemies like us.
You took the whips and thorns meant for us.
You gave your last, agonizing breath so that we could be saved. 
Only our mighty God could turn the cruelty of the cross into redemption.

Holy Spirit,
Show us the magnitude of the cross.
Remind us of the height of your love and the depth of our need.
Awaken our hearts to your compassionate pursuit of the weak and failing.
We praise your name and thank you for the cross ofChrist.
