Sermon text
Amos 1:9–15
[9] Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Tyre,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
[10] So I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre,
and it shall devour her strongholds.”
[11] Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Edom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because he pursued his brother with the sword
and cast off all pity,
and his anger tore perpetually,
and he kept his wrath forever.
[12] So I will send a fire upon Teman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”
[13] Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of the Ammonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
[14] So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah,
and it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
[15] and their king shall go into exile,
he and his princes together,”
says the LORD. (ESV)

Call to Worship
Psalm 143:9–12
[9] Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD!
I have fled to you for refuge.
[10] Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
[11] For your name’s sake, O LORD, preserve my life!
In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!
[12] And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies,
and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul,
for I am your servant. (ESV)

Prayer of Repentance
Almighty God, Father of mercies, work in us what is pleasing to you. Grant to us the grace to see our sins as you see them, so to grieve over them: then turn our sin into repentance, and let our repentance lead to forgiveness; and teach us diligently to guard all our actions that we may never willingly transgress your laws or disobey your Word. Make it our life's work to obey you, the joy of our souls to please you, and the purest of all our desires to live with you in your kingdom of grace and glory. Amen.

Benediction
May the Lord fill your hearts with peace and trust in His perfect rule. May He remind you of His justice and that His judgments are always righteous. May you find refuge in Christ Jesus, the eternal King, who reigns with all authority over heaven and earth. May the Lord equip you to love mercy, act justly, and walk humbly before Him, knowing He sees every injustice and will set all things right. Rest in the truth that His plans cannot be thwarted, for He holds all things in His hands. Go in peace, trusting our faithful Lord. It is in Jesus’ name that we pray. Amen
