1 Timothy 1:1-11

[1] Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,

[2] To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

[3] As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, [4] nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. [5] The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. [6] Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, [7] desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.

[8] Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, [9] understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, [10] the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, [11] in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. (ESV)

Call to Worship

Psalm 78:1, 4
[1] Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
[4] We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. (ESV)

Prayer of Repentance

Father of mercies, work in us what is pleasing to you. Grant us the grace to see our sins as you see them. Then turn our sin into repentance, and let our repentance lead to forgiveness. Teach us to guard all our ways so we may never willingly disobey your Word. Make it our life's work to obey you, the joy of our souls to please you, and the purest of our desires to live with you in your kingdom of grace and glory. Amen.

Benediction

May God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope, fill you with grace, mercy, and peace as His true children in the faith. May He strengthen you to wage the good warfare so that the clear gospel of Jesus produces love among you. May the law, used lawfully in accordance with the gospel, reveal your need for Christ and guide your grateful obedience, that you may live according to the truth. In the strong name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
