Sermon text

Colossians 2:1–15

[1] For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, [2] that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, [3] in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. [4] I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. [5] For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ. [6] Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, [7] rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. [8] See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. [9] For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, [10] and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. [11] In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, [12] having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. [13] And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, [14] by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. [15] He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. (ESV)

Call to Worship

Psalm 26:8–12

[8] O LORD, I love the habitation of your house
and the place where your glory dwells.
[9] Do not sweep my soul away with sinners,
nor my life with bloodthirsty men,
[10] in whose hands are evil devices,
and whose right hands are full of bribes.
[11] But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
redeem me, and be gracious to me.
[12] My foot stands on level ground;
in the great assembly I will bless the LORD. (ESV)

Prayer of Repentance

O God, we have no merit; let the merit of Jesus stand for us. We are undeserving, but we look to your tender mercy. We are full of sin; you are full of grace. You have given us your Son, Jesus, and now our hearts are turned towards holiness. Help us in all our doings to mortify our sin and pride. Save us from the love of the world and the pride of life, from everything that is natural to fallen man, and let Christ's nature be seen in us day by day. We pray in Jesus’ name and for His glory. Amen.

Benediction

Heavenly Father, we praise You for bringing us salvation through Your Son Jesus Christ. You have chosen the places and times for us to live that we might be ambassadors for Christ; Calling our neighbors, friends, and family to be reconciled to God. Go before us in this great work of the gospel; Give us patience as we love like Jesus has loved us. Give us discernment to know the lies that surround us. Give us confidence to speak boldly the Word of Truth about Jesus. Give us favor as we invite others to come worship You. Lord may this be the time for salvation in Kitsap County. “​​How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’” We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen
