Kids Ministry: Director Update

Hello Coram Deo Church! I want to give you a quick update on the status of our Kids Ministry and where we are headed.

Our main goal and objective is to make sure the kids and families of our church are well taken care of – not just physically, but spiritually as well. Our hope and prayer is that we can safely re-introduce our church ministries as soon as possible. Unfortunately, with our existing health concerns, Kids Ministry is going to be extra tricky to reopen.

We believe it’s in the best interest of the church to wait to open our Kids Ministry classrooms until we can do so safely. We don’t want to open some classes and not others, or have to limit classroom numbers and create a situation where some kids can’t attend. Because of that, we will not have Sunday School classes throughout the remainder of summer. I’ll continue creating kid discipleship videos each week for families to have as a resource over the summer. And if there are any needs your family has or ideas for how we can better support your kids during this time, we’d love to hear them! You can email me at kids@coramdeochurch.org.

Because there are so many unknowns in our current situation, planning is difficult at best. But we want to be prepared to reopen our Sunday School classes as soon as it’s safe and reasonable to do so – and that means we will need your help.

But we want to be prepared to reopen our Sunday School classes as soon as it’s safe and reasonable to do so – and that means we will need your help.

While we do not know specifically when classrooms will reopen, we DO know that in order for that to happen we will need Teachers and Assistants to staff them. To make planning more manageable, I’m asking the current Kids Ministry team, whose year-long commitments were cut in half due to Covid 19, to consider recommitting for next year. That way most, if not all, volunteers will already be trained and ready to go whenever we can reopen the classrooms. I’ll be reaching out to the current Teachers and Assistants in the coming weeks to begin sorting out where the remaining spots are that will need to be filled.

If you aren’t currently part of the Kids Ministry team but would like to join, we would love to have you! Reach out to me and we can begin the process of getting you trained and ready to start when classes reopen.

When church abruptly had to stop meeting in person, the kids were in the middle of our 1 Peter study. I’ve gone back over these lessons and realized that our current reality brings a new perspective and need for Peter’s words in this book. So when we do begin Sunday School classes again, we are going to restart our 1 Peter series with the kids. This will also lessen the burden on the Teachers as they’ve already taught several of these lessons.

We will also have other volunteer positions that need to be filled in order for classrooms to reopen – mainly a cleaning crew. With the extra cleaning and sanitizing guidelines for childcare and Sunday School classrooms, this is a weekly, multi-person task that we need your help accomplishing. If you are interested in serving the kids at Coram Deo in this way, please reach out to me and I'll give you more information.

We love you guys. We love your kids. We know that this is a really difficult time and believe me when I say that all of us here long for the day when we can all be together again. Your kids are not only an important part of our body here at Coram Deo, but they are cherished and needed. They preach the gospel to us every week with their questions, their hands raised in praise, their voices singing to the Lord. Thank you for letting us be a part of their lives!

I’ll leave you with Peter’s words in 1 Peter 4:8-10:

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”

It is a great gift from God that I get to serve our church by loving your kids. If you have any questions about Kids Ministry here at Coram Deo Church, I’d love to hear from you! Again, my email is kids@coramdeochurch.org. Have a great rest of your day everyone!
