THIS WEEK:

From the Sermon: Christ Alone — Colossians 2:13-15

NEXT WEEK'S SCRIPTURE: Matthew 28:1-20

Preacher: Pastor Jon Needham

Scripture: Colossians 2:13-15

MAIN POINTS: 1) Who are the rulers and authorities? 2) What do they do? 3) How has Christ defeated them?

On our 3rd Sunday of our Easter series, we will be looking at how Christ is our Victor. He has defeated the rulers and authorities.

Family Discussion Questions:

1. What’s something that surprised or confused you about this Bible passage?
2. Who are the rulers and authorities spoken of in this passage?
3. What weapons are used against us by Satan and his demons?
4. What weapons are used by God’s people to battle Satan and his demons?
5. How has Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities against which we battle?

Parent Tip:
· Read the sermon summary together as a family. Build this into your regular routine, perhaps reading together around the table during a meal.
· There are five questions, each with a different theme. You can choose to go over all five on one night a week, do a couple of questions a few times a week, or discuss one question per day.
· Each question is meant to be a conversation starter model for your children on how to answer these questions by sharing your own personal insights.
· Even if your conversations don’t go as planned, don’t be discouraged. ALL time spent talking about and reading God’s word is valuable!
· The more consistent you are in having these discussions, the more fruitful they will be. As this becomes part of your weekly rhythm, your kids will anticipate the questions and listen more attentively at church.

Other Scriptures

Parent Tip:
Use these additional scriptures as daily reading. This is also a great way to help your children learn to locate passages in the Bible.

Attribute of God:

VICTOR There is nothing or no one who can defeat God. He is all powerful and cannot be overthrown.

Parent Tip:We focus on a new attribute of God each week to discuss as a family. Use this time to discuss who God is, answer questions the kids might have, and talk about what that week’s attribute means to each person in your family.

Prayer & Fasting Focus:

- God’s provision for our building and remodel
- Protection for our church family
- Salvation and Good Friday and Easter Services
- P41 - Pray for your ONE!

Parent Tip:
Each week of the month has its own prayer theme: Church, Family, Community, and Repentance. Use these themes to show your children how to pray. It can be helpful to add this to an already existing routine, like at bedtime or when you’re in the car together.

THIS MONTH:

MONTHLY SONG:

It Is Finished

It is finished! He has done it
Let your weary heart rejoice
Our redemption is accomplished
Raise a shout with ragged voice
And go bravely into battle
Knowing He has won the war
It is finished lift your head
And weep no more!

There’s no deed that can redeem us
There’s no rite, nor magic word
Only by the work of Jesus,
Can salvation be secured

And let every sinner rejoice
Hear the dying victor’s cry
Raise up your voice
Sing it out through earth and sky

Each month we highlight a different song for you to sing together. Singing is an integral part of worship! Singing as a family helps teach the kids how to worship at church, and as they learn more songs, they will be able to participate more on Sunday mornings. You can practice your songs in the car, at the dinner table, when you wake up, or at bedtime! You can also check out our playlist on Spotify and sing along with your favorite worship songs.

Memory Verse:

1 Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead...”

Parent Tip:
This is the same memory verse that the whole church is learning and it rotates monthly. Practice reciting it as a family each day at least once. Dinner time is a great opportunity to practice together.

New City Catechism:

Questions 49: Where is Christ now?
Answer:
Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Parent Tip:
We are making our way through the New City Catechism with a new question every month. You can practice catechism questions anytime throughout the day! For the complete list of questions, answers and songs, download the free app “New City Catechism” on your device.
